Senior Area Manager

Regions

Upper North Island

By talking to and learning from farmers, scientists and rural professionals, Mike can pass back what’s been discussed to influence future research, development and advocacy.

“Working with dairy farmers and other rural professionals who are passionate about the dairy sector is an enjoyable part of my role. Farmers run different farm systems, in different areas and climates.

“We help them to meet their goals and improve their businesses, by providing knowledge, tools, relevant science, and connecting them with fellow farmers, rural professionals and scientists.

“At the same time we get to discuss and learn with farmers a lot about the practical application of science and technical information on-farm.”

Mike has worked for DairyNZ and its predecessors in a range of roles in the North and South islands.

“Farm systems, regulation and climatic conditions are always evolving. The scope and pace of change can be challenging at times and rewarding at other times, so we can play an important role in learning from and supporting farmers with how to navigate through that.

“An excellent network of organisations and rural professionals helps us with events, knowledge and skills as well as providing useful feedback allowing us to all do a better job. Building good connections and relationships is key to our success.”
