Tegan has a strong passion for people, profitability, and on-farm efficiency. She also takes time to get to know local dairy farmers as individuals.

“I love to work closely with local farmers to understand their farm systems, and to find out what their goals/values are and watch farmers achieve them. Dairy farming is a key cornerstone of New Zealand agriculture and DairyNZ’s support and research is crucial, if New Zealand is to remain one of the top dairy producers in the world.”

Collaboration is key in her regional role, says Tegan.

“We find that there are many farmers all wanting similar or the same information from each other and from us. So, working collaboratively in an efficient way helps farmers achieve their objectives and reduces pressure.

“We also work closely with rural professionals (RPs), whether that’s through events, or one-on-one. Twice a year we hold RP update meetings to share the most current information, and stay on the same page. These events are hugely successful.”

Tegan grew up in a small rural community in South Taranaki before moving to the Manawatū in 2016.

“I love the opportunity to work closely with local farmers, not only to understand their farm system, but also them as individuals and what their goals/values are. Seeing farmers progress towards their goals, and being able to support that, is something I love.

“I want to make a difference for farmers in this region, so I make sure I’m approachable and easily contactable about any queries. Even if I can’t answer all of them – I’ll connect a farmer with someone who can.”
