Board of Directors
First elected October 2024.
Richard and his wife Emma are herd-owning sharemilkers in the Horowhenua where they milk 450 cows, rear 600 calves, and lease a 180ha dry stock farm as they work their way towards farm ownership. They have two teenage children, Olivia and Matthew.
Richard also sits on the Board of Federated Farmers, currently in his third and final year as the Dairy Chair. Through this role, he has led the charge pushing for an independent inquiry into rural banking, workable animal welfare regulations and practical immigration settings.
Six years on the New Zealand Dairy Industry Awards trust, six years on the Wellington Fish and Game Council and two years on the NZ Fish & Game Council has given Richard extensive and relevant governance experience. He has also completed the Fonterra Governance Development programme and a term as a DairyNZ Associate Director.
The responsibility of the Board is to oversee DairyNZ’s strategic goals and make key decisions on how best to respond to the risks and opportunities impacting our farmers and sector.
Dairy farming is becoming more complex, which means we need to prioritise what we do, and how we do it, to achieve positive progress and make a greater impact.
All farmers who supply milk to a dairy company pay a levy. Your levy is invested in a wide range of programmes that progress a positive future for New Zealand dairy farming.
